History

The Handbell Choir of Puerto Rico, Inc. was founded in 1981 under the direction of Diana Alvarez. The members of HCPR are fifteen ringers between the ages of 14 and 27 years and their education ranges from eighth grade to doctoral degrees. They are a community choir, composed also of preparatory and intermediate choirs, whose home is Second Union Church of San Juan. For the last seventeen years, the HCPR has played in most of the 78 counties of Puerto Rico, theaters, town halls and all of San Juan's government buildings. During the spring and Christmas seasons, the choir performs with Puerto Rico's finest choirs and musicians on Bellas Artes, the Island's main auditorium. On several occasions, the ringers and their directors have been to different states to participate and perform in handbell related events.
